TxT ensemble is a brand-new group led by jazz guitarist Tjoe and tap dancer Tansei. Joining them are double bass player Ashley de neef and drummer Nate Wong
Tjoe and Taisei first collaborated in the winter of 2017, performing in the band NTBM, and since then they’ve developed and composed music tailored for tap dancing and jazz improvisation, and have also re-arranged jazz standards. Their shows always feature live music, especially improvised jazz – because tapping is like talking musically.
Tjoe Man Cheung (guitar, composer, arranger)

Tjoe is a Hong Kong-born-and-bred musician. This Musicians Institute alumnus is a favoured sideman in the pop-music scene, a talented jazz and blues guitarist, and a proficient arranger and composer. Currently the official artist of Melancon, Tjoe is renowned for his creative approach, powerful soloing, spectacular improvisation skills and the splash of humour that he brings to the stage.
Tansei (tap dancer) Tansei, from Tokyo, Japan, started learning tap dancing with some of the top dancers in New York in 2010. He has performed at a numerous venues and events throughout Japan and overseas.
Tansei landed in Hong Kong in 2014, and since then he’s played in hundreds of jazz gigs. He also leads a band, Tokyo Senretsu Sess!on
Nate Wong (drums)
Nate Wong is a Hong Kong native who grew up in California, graduated from Berklee College of Music and is now a musician in Hong Kong.
Nate is a cross over musician that has his finger prints on virtually all parts of HK’s music industry. He is the drummer of indie up comers Nowhere Boys and leads a jazz quintet named Nate w/ The Wong Way Down which has performed in the HK International Jazz Festival, Zhuhai Jazz Festival, Guangzhou Opera House and Ecuador Jazz Festival.
Nate has also performed with some of Asia’s most popular artists such as Sammi Cheng, Anthony Wong, A-Lin, Hacken Lee and Alan Tam.
Ashley de Neef (double bass)
Ashley de Neef is an multi-instrumentalist from Australia best known for his melodic double bass playing and intricate compositions. He has performed with jazz greats such as Greg Osby and James Morrison and has released his debut album “West of the World” featuring traditional West-African group Burkina Azza. He is currently living and creating music on the road.
